PRODUCT DESIGN

Take a look at the great work created by the product design students at NTIC, reflecting the perfect blend of imagination, creation and iteration of designs. These designs ranging from outdoor lighting and disability design to developmental toys for children capture the perfect existence between form and function.

PRODUCT DESIGN

FREEDOM BAG

I have always been intrigued by the field of product design and how it embraces a tight bond between form and function for any design, simple or complex. The functionality and utility of a product are elevated and enhanced through its aesthetic, giving the individual who is already impressed by the product a slight nudge to go ahead and become the buyer of that product. Surprisingly, this harmonious existence of form and function seem to be present in every channel of design but one – disability design.

My project involves designing a catheter case, allowing people to go about their lives without their disability acting as a barrier. What is unique about this disability product, is that it does not confer or reflect a sterile, hospital like vibe, instead it uses colour and short, motivational messages to encompass the element of aesthetic through emotional design. Changing the way a person perceives their disability is what this product is about.

The following elements can be improved in disability design -

1. Aesthetics of disability products by introducing the aspect of colour and improved forms.

2. Eliminating the sterile, hospital like vibe associated with disability products.

3. Developing pediatric catheters, designed specifically for children.
